Cranberry for Urinary Health: What the Evidence Actually Shows

Cranberry may reduce recurrent UTIs in some women, but prevention evidence is not the same as treating infection or urinary incontinence.

Cranberry is one of the better-studied supplement ingredients in urinary health—but the strongest evidence is specific to preventing recurrent urinary tract infections in certain groups, not treating active infection or curing bladder leakage.

What the evidence supports

A 2023 Cochrane review included 50 randomized or quasi-randomized trials with 8,857 participants. It found moderate-certainty evidence that cranberry products reduced symptomatic, culture-verified recurrent UTIs in women with recurrent UTIs. Cochrane

What the evidence does not prove

The same review does not establish that cranberry treats an active UTI, and a separate Cochrane review found no randomized trials supporting cranberry for UTI treatment. Cochrane treatment review

UTI prevention outcomes also should not be translated into proof that cranberry reduces stress or urgency incontinence.

How this relates to FemiPro

FemiPro includes cranberry extract as one part of a proprietary multi-ingredient formula. Even if cranberry can reduce recurrent UTI risk in some populations, that does not tell us the cranberry dose in FemiPro or prove the finished formula controls leaks.
